Summary

  • By: The repeated delays on Project Starship have become such a serious issue that secrecy on the project is on the verge of breaking down.[1]
  • By: The introduction of antimatter-powered Battleaxe corvettes provides Star Fleet with an excellent rapid response in-system police vessel.[2]
  • During (post-Archanis Massacre): The UFP retakes, withdraws from, and then again retakes the Archanis system during the Four Years War.[3][4]
  • Early: Various compact solid state warp engines are developed and fielded for use with natural dilithium powerplants.[5]
  • Early: Single-ship Klingon raiders make infrequent raids upon the various settlements on New Montevideo, exacerbating the challenges that come with dramatically decreasing crop yields.[6]
  • First half: The climax of Star Fleet’s attempt to close the gap between Klingon and UFP military strength.[7]
  • From: The 1800 range of registries is reserved for exploratory cruisers.[8]
This will be utilized by the Tikopai subclass, starting in 2276.
  • Era of the Four Years War.[3]
  • Over the length of the decade, 500 transports of modern capabilities are provided for in the budgets.[10]
  • Star Fleet begins the transition from the spooled warp coil to solid-state technology.[11]
  • Technological breakthroughs allow for considerations of space, endurance, additional power, and smaller footprints for auxiliary craft.[12]
  • Sorting out meek Imperial reconnoitering missions from reckless privateer raids or the frequent yet futile invasion attempts by weak Klingon factions is a constant pain for Star Fleet border defense forces.[13]
  • This decade is the first of two that represents the height of perimeter ship combat on Klingon borders.[14]
  • The Suliban continue to be viewed with deep suspicion by galactic powers, living in scattered settlements or assimilating into other cultures as a galactic pariah state.[15]
This condition will continue into the 2250s.
  • Mid-decade: The Orion Wanderer class is developed largely through industrial espionage, greatly influenced by the Star Fleet Procyon design.[2]
  • Mid-decade: Project Locust employs swarms of up to dozens of Tegu class scientific scoutcraft, accompanied by other interstellar scout types and a number of tenders, to quickly cover vast surface areas in search of key planetary resources within the Romulan border sectors and ones coreward that were relatively sparsely inhabited.[16]
  • Second half: The decade is remembered as the Great Awakening, with significant numbers of scientific results from deep space exploration.[17][18]
Guide: 2240-2270 - The Final Frontier suggests the era started in the 2240s, but it would seem that that would not happen until after the Four Years War concludes (in 2245).
  • Late: The tactical, strategic, and financial advantages of the Procyon class corvette concept begin to manifest.[19]
  • Late: Star Fleet begins considering developing a corvette with the same advantages of the Procyon class, at a cheaper rate.[19]

Years

Events

  • Research into possible use of dilithium instead of lithium to control warp core reactions is begun.[20][21]
This really began in the 30s, as evident by the use of dilithium in the Constitution development program, Project Starship.
  • All variants of the Horizon class receive new auxiliary craft assignments.[22]
  • The significance of the Willall challenge upon Klingon politicians and scientists is uncovered.[23]
  • USS Truman (NCC-1115, Proxima class) serves as the command ship in anti-Klingon actions.[24]
  • The following battles occur (presumably during the Four Years War): Donatu (three Icarus/Ashanti class destroyed); Second Arquin (two Ashantis are ambushed with lethal results); Final Axanar.[25]
  • USS Byrd (first of her class) initiates first contact with the Lyran Star Empire during her 25-year voyage of galactic exploration.[26]
The decade is presumed, based upon the assumption the contact occurred on the outward portion of the mission. (It could also occur on the return leg, if the mission plan did not replicate the first leg on the second one.)
  • Marklin class light destroyers see brief service on the Klingon front.[27]
