Summary
- By: Nisus, originally settled by Vulcans, has a population with a diverse mix of races and cultures.[1]
- By: Antipathy IV is an Andorian agricultural colony.[2]
- Early: Numerous, but brief, conflicts are occuring between the Vestians and the Federation.[3]
- Early: Multi-thousand-ton cutters, scoutcraft, and runabouts were poor representatives of the state of the art in Federation miniaturization.[4]
- Early decades: The deep space logistics chain of Star Fleet is still severely lacking.[5]
- Surveys conducted throughout the 23rd and 24th centuries indicate Terrans mistakenly believe military activity in orbit of Earth came to a full stop and that Vulcans ended up providing defenses after World War III.[6]
- The century is a time of introspection for Star Fleet.[8]
- Star Fleet is a cruiser fleet this century.[9]
- Contemporary estimations propose some 400 to 600 unidentified space vessels, ranging from mundane smugglers to advanced alien voyagers way out of Star Fleet’s league, are trespassing Federation space at any given time. Late-24th century estimations presume it was closer to 1,200-1,400 trespassers, taking into account those visitors not detectable by the technology of the era.[9]
- Vega IV is a Human colony noted not only for the vast amount of ruins from the Vegan Tyranny, but also for the far more modern culture, arts, and entertainment that services the major trade port.[10]
- Mid-century: Nacelle jettison systems are notoriously unreliable, including those of the largely self-contained circumferential engines.[11]
- Mid-century: The Black Exchange—the persistent monetary trade and currency-based commerce that occurs on the Federation frontier—receives academic and political awareness in the core worlds.[13]
- Late-century: The success of anti-piracy operations is generally attributed to the fielding of high numbers of frigates, though the Procyon class corvettes also play a role in securing most of the spacelane from Earth to Rigel, depriving Orion forces of their most bountiful hunting grounds this side of the Borderlands.[14]
- Late: The Vega Prime 1 space station is placed into orbit of Vega IV by the Terran Science Foundation.[10]
- Late: The Tai/Sait class is one of the most important light couriers.[15]
- Late: Little in the way of civilian market is found for Star Fleet-designed light or medium transports.[16]
- "Old Star Fleet transports don't sell so good."
Decades
Events
- Earth's shipbuilding history continues with the colonization and cargo ships of the later part of this century.[17]
- Civilian use of the FY-200 transport continues up until this century, in the 3rd decade.[18]
- Transporter-based bulk loading systems were slowly being introduced, but mechanical conveyors remained the primary means of cargo transfer well into this century.[19]
- Mid-century: Star Fleet is escalating its logistics program.[20]
- Late-century: Star Fleet drastically simplifies ship naming practices.[21]
- Late-century: The great firepower of the Surya subclass heavy frigates results (in part) in Star Fleet’s decision to significantly slow down destroyer development.[21]
