- Having completed a multi-year refit, USS Read (Byrd galactic survey cruiser) launches on her second galactic survey, a 13-year voyage.[6]
- Presumption, based on that each of the three ships completed 2 surveys, and the Smith was the last to return from her own 13-year voyage.

- The final Westminster subclass heavy transport is completed.[11]
- Construction is completed on the final Hopi class large survey cruiser.[12]
- The Security Council extends membership to Ardana.[13][14]
- This is a contentious move, as the Federation Council was intentionally not consulted because the five permanent members held the source of zenite too important to depend on a general vote.
- The Cle Dan class fast repair tender enters service with Star Fleet.[15]
- The remaining Portsmith and Bedford escorts are decommissioned from Star Fleet service; the final Portsmith is converted back to a Fleet support vessel.[16]
- Star Fleet acquires 24 Solar Mk III class cutters.[17]

- The first Epsilon class cutters enter Federation government service.[23]
- The Type 8 shuttlepod enters production.[24]

USS Levant (NCC-1442, Baton Rouge heavy cruiser), commanded by Commodore Sieren, and light cruiser USS Sutherland (NCC-1010, Texas Flight II), commanded by Commander James Kirk, are both lost in the Battle of Ghioghe.[27]
- The loss of the Sutherland happened in early 2263, according to the TOS novel Enterprise: The First Adventure.
- Commodore Sieren was posthumously cleared of charges for the losses, and—by default—so was CDR Kirk.
- Timo's Guide (and game-canon) does not include "Lydia" as part of the ship's assigned name.
- January 13: the final Cochrane class colonizer is constructed.[28]
- April 4th: Following assertive diplomatic efforts by the UFP, Altair IV and Altair VI sign the Altair Accords, declaring a ceasefire between the indigenous Palkeo Est and the central authority on Altair VI and (apparently) resolving the cultural, economic, and governance issues that came to a head during the Third Battle of Altair.[29]
- June 12, 2263: After a narrow election victory on Yunax-Enol by pro-Federation candidate Felix Xual, a sniper assassinates him during his inauguration. Major General Zuya de Chevallier leads a military coup, establishing a junta supported by the Klingon houses of Korok and Duras. Vice President-elect Joseph Calax'Zi escapes to the Federation embassy and requests "immediate and direct assistance".[30]
- June 14, 2263: President Pro Tempore Peter Broadhurst assents to Operation Dakota; Star Fleet Task Force Fukuhara and the 2nd Orbital Division (2OD) are dispatched to restore the legitimate government.[30]

- July 12, 2263: The Vulcan government independently recognizes the new Kobaxite government, a year after the UFP did.[30]
- Late: USS Star League (NCC-2101, Federation dreadnought) is recalled from Alpha Cygni Sector defense duty to pacify the Klingon-Orion front in the aftermath of the Ghioghe incident.[32]

- Starts after the departure of USS Star League.
