History
- Mid-19th century: Enolian settlers found their first colonies, including Yunax-Enol.[1][2]
- 2070: The Yunax-Enol population reaches 45 million; the colony becomes the most prosperous but also the most oppressed part of the Enolian Union due to its pluralism.[3]
- 2086: Enolians on Yunax-Enol, known as Kobaxites, begin an eight-year struggle for independence from the Enolian Union.[3]
- 2094: Yunax-Enol achieves independence from the Union and is renamed Kobax, an Enolian word meaning "hope".[3]
- 2097: The Human generation ship SS Jeanne D'Arc arrives in orbit; the 15,000 Earth colonists settle peacefully alongside the Kobaxites, eventually intermingling their cultures.[3]
- 2188: The United Federation of Planets makes first contact with Kobax; the Kobaxites initially decline formal association to maintain their vibrant, independent democracy.[3]
- Early 2200s: A massive influx of Federation settlers begins to drive a political split between Kobaxite traditionalists and pluralists.[3]
- October 2225: Kobax decides to sign the Stellar Travel Accepted Rights (S.T.A.R.) treaties, facilitating trade while remaining outside formal Federation membership.[3]
- 2256–2257 (Federation-Klingon War): Following the Klingon annexation of Vico-Enol, political pressure on Kobax intensifies, as the planet is viewed as a strategic prize for control of the Orion-Korvat spacelanes.[3]
- Mid-2262: Klingon patrols push closer to the Kobax system, drawing more Star Fleet scouts into the region to monitor the "War of the Merchant".[3]
- Late 2262: Admiral Vaughan Rittenhouse transfers several obsolete cruisers to the Kobaxite government to shore up trade protection and neutral support.[3]
- June 12, 2263: After a narrow election victory by pro-Federation candidate Felix Xual, a sniper assassinates him during his inauguration. Major General Zuya de Chevallier leads a military coup, establishing a junta supported by the Klingon houses of Korok and Duras. Vice President-elect Joseph Calax'Zi escapes to the Federation embassy and requests "immediate and direct assistance".[3]
- June 14, 2263: President Ken Wescott assents to Operation Dakota; Star Fleet Task Force Fukuhara and the 2nd Orbital Division (2OD) are dispatched to restore the legitimate government.[3]
- Late June 2263: The 2nd Orbital Division conducts an experimental orbital drop to liberate the capital, New Enol, engaging in fierce urban combat against Klingon shock troops and the mercenary Hayes Brigade.[3]
- July 4, 2263: The Battle of the Malabek Highway results in a decisive Federation victory; General Zuya de Chevallier is killed in an ambush and the Klingon-backed junta collapses.[3]
- July 12, 2263: The Vulcan government independently recognizes the new Kobaxite government, a year after the UFP did.[3]
- 2265: Three Klingon D10 cruisers conduct "demonstrations" as deep as Kobax; the system is later included in the Mal'Kren Ultimatum, with the Empire demanding recognition of its authority over the territory.[3]
- June 21, 2267 (Four Days War): As Klingon forces invade Enolian space, Federation Task Force Wesley is ordered to withdraw to a blocking position ahead of Kobax to prevent a breakthrough.[3]
