  • The last 10 Roanoke class transports (retained as navigation training vessels) are starting to be retired (thru 2279).[8]
  • The USS Napoleon represents an experiment at a new type of carrier.[9]
  • The Mojave subclass light cruisers are tasked with an intense hunt for Orion pirates and slave traders.[10]
  • The remaining San Francisco class cutters (formerly Lincoln class frigates) are retired and scrapped.[11]
  • Some decommissioned Independences are turned into commercial cargo drones.[12]
  • Large interstellar ‘berserker machines’ and malevolent and extremely resilient spaceborne lifeforms, against which standard cruiser armament is impotent, are encountered for the first time.[13]
  • The various civilian Hubble class runabout variants remain popular with those unable to afford the latest technology.[14]

  • mid-decade: Civilian freighters begin a series of convoy exercises with Star Fleet in preparation for such operations.[12]
  • late decade: President McLaren orders the reduction of Star Fleet's exploration budget. Fleet Admiral Heiharchio Nogura, veteran of the prolonged Klingon conflict and strong proponent of the Constitution exploration program, resigns in protest.[16]
Per present awareness of Presidential administrations, McLaren assumed office in 2269.
  • late decade: President McLaren backs off of the previous order, and agrees to fund the extensive Constitution refit project.[16]
