• Early: The plans for the prospective Caracal class light cruiser are submitted.

• May: The basic Caracal design is 'frozen', ordered ready for production at a quantity of 16.

• The final operational use of the Normandy and Port Stanley classes of escort fightercraft takes place, with decommissioning of all remaining craft completed within the same year.

• Increased funding for the Caracal class, frozen in quantity, is instead channeled to improving onboard equipment.

• The second two Alexandria class corvette tenders enter service.
