- The Richter class cruiser enters service with Star Fleet.[7]
- Star Fleet decides to start overhauling old Texas class light cruisers for front line duty, in order to overcome the low ship numbers. USS Rub al Khali (NCC-926) is selected to be the first to receive an overhaul (to what will be named the Navigator sub-class).[8]
