Summary

  • The Klingon threat was escalating in the early part of the decade.[1]
  • There are no resources for building starbases at the rate required to support operations on the faraway Klingon border.[1]
  • The Mann and Ranger class light cruisers form Starfleet’s main defense against the Klingons, ‘holding the fort’ until ships designed from the outset to oppose the warrior empire are fielded.[2]
  • The Baton Rouge heavy cruisers and Detroyat and Saladin destroyers start replacing the Manns and Rangers in the contested Federation/Klingon space.[3]
  • Starfleet struggles to find a suitable replacement for the PB-21 nacelle for the Burke series frigates.[4]
  • Starfleet decides the stratagem of quality over missing quantity is proven insufficient: the two main lines of destroyers are spread too thin on the battlefronts to amass to decisive strength and the cruisers are in the wrong place in the wrong time.[5]

Years

Events

  • The last Y class transports cease operation in the Federation (per official records) this decade.[6]
  • The remaining Ganges class destroyers (long grounded) are scrapped for construction materials.[7]
  • The Watt class fleet tanker/transports are ordered de-commissioned and sold for scrap.[8]
  • The Ariadne class patrol corvettes (and its subclasses) are collectively painted more subdued colors and sensor-absorbing coatings, in order to better hide from aggressors.[9]
  • The Selenia Mk 1 torpedo launch system is dubbed a ‘heavy’ weapon.[10]
