2220s
Summary
- The Klingon threat was escalating in the early part of the decade.[1]
- There are no resources for building starbases at the rate required to support operations on the faraway Klingon border.[1]
- The Mann and Ranger class light cruisers form Starfleet’s main defense against the Klingons, ‘holding the fort’ until ships designed from the outset to oppose the warrior empire are fielded.[2]
- The Baton Rouge heavy cruisers and Detroyat and Saladin destroyers start replacing the Manns and Rangers in the contested Federation/Klingon space.[3]
- Starfleet struggles to find a suitable replacement for the PB-21 nacelle for the Burke series frigates.[4]
- Starfleet decides the stratagem of quality over missing quantity is proven insufficient: the two main lines of destroyers are spread too thin on the battlefronts to amass to decisive strength and the cruisers are in the wrong place in the wrong time.[5]

- The Ariadne class patrol corvettes (and its subclasses) are collectively painted more subdued colors and sensor-absorbing coatings, in order to better hide from aggressors.[9]
