History

The first life was formed on Earth from a group of amino acids combined to form the first proteins approximately 3.5 billion years ago, plus or minus two eons. From this start, at least one known sentient species evolved on Earth: Human.

Earth has been the birthplace of several major religions, such as Christianity and Judaism. Some of these religions, in one form or the other, have survived to the 23rd and 24th century.

Earth has also been visited, observed, and occasionally manipulated during its history, prior to official first contact by the Vulcans. These include an ancient humanoid species, the Preservers, descendants of Humans abducted around 4000 BC, and Vulcans themselves, although there is still dispute about this as there is no proof or evidence offered by the Vulcan High Command. The Humpback whales were being observed by an unknown entity, who upon loss of contact with the species, sent a probe to investigate the absence of whale song.

Political Timeline

YEAR EVENT
1996 The Great Khanate falls.
2000 The Korean Peninsula Crisis: Famine and then a military coup results in great strife for North Korea. The United Nation responds, though with considerable resistance from China and Russia.
2001 Over tremendous turmoil over the role of the United Nation in North Korea and being over-extended in humanitarian crises precipitated by the fall of the Great Khanate, the United Nation is suddenly disbanded.
2002 South Korea alone assists the people of North Korea in recovery.
2002 The United States of America and the European Union formalize an economic and defense relationship with what will be called the Western Alliance by media and opponents.
2003 The Korean peninsula is formally reunified under a constitutional monarchy established with North Korean expatriate and Kim Jung Il daughter, Kim Jung Noe.
2008 The Western Alliance space agencies jointly conduct the Aventeur space missions.
2009 The democratic nations of Arabia, Palestine, Syria, Iraq and Iran form the Muslim Bloc.
2010 The Pan-African Alliance forms.
2011 The New United Nations (NUN) convenes for the first time.
2018 The NUN creates the International Space Agency (ISA), an intended effort to coordinate combined national space exploration.
2018 The Western Alliance turns over the Aventeur space missions to the ISA. The European Union turns over all European Space Agency operations to the ISA.
2020 The Western Alliance provides the military command structure for the NUN, giving it extraordinary political power.
2031 The Western Alliance, Pan-African Alliance, Muslim Bloc and a mix of nations from the Far East and Middle East work together to divert a series of asteroids from striking Earth, capturing and diverting six to L-5 points.
2031 Lee Kuan of China suggests an alliance between the (perceived) disadvantaged nations of China, India, Kazakhstan, (united) Korea, Pakistan, Singapore and Vietnam; the Eastern Coalition (ECON) is formed.
2040 The Mediterranean Alliance forms.
2052 The New United Nations sides with the Western Alliance on legal use of oil fields in the South China Sea and Antarctica. The ECON secedes from the NUN in protest.
2052 Conflicts between ground, air and naval forces frequently erupt in the disputed oil regions.
2053 The ECON destroys the USSS Columbus in orbit in a preemptive strike.
2053 World War III erupts when the ECON militaries strike NUN cities and forces. A ceasefire is declared later in the year.
2053 Other than military operations taking place under its banner, the New United Nations ceases to operate as a coordinated entity.
2055 The Eastern Coalition formally becomes a nation, subsuming the member states as political regions and retreats within the haphazard recovery processes that help define the era known as the Post-Atomic Horror.
2063 First Contact
2065 A significant number of nations resurrect the New United Nations.
2065 The NUN establishes the Earth Cargo Authority, the commercial oversight equivalent to the ISA.
2067 The NUN forms the United Earth Space Probe Agency (UESPA), to help coordinate and develop human presence in interstellar space.
2069 Current members of the NUN agree to the United Earth Defense Pact, a promise to put Earth's ascendency and safety ahead of national goals.
2069 The United States turns over all NASA operations to UESPA. The NUN does the same with the ISA.
2075 The Gibraltar Dam is completed.
2078 The New United Nation ceases organized operation as nations individually deal with the Post-Atomic Horror. The UEDP membership strives to remain operational.
2113 The UEDP, acting as a de facto world government, represents humanity's interests with the interstellar community.
2130 The UEDP is formalized as the United Earth government by a majority of its members; not all of the world's nations agree or join.
2132 Romulan Star Empire first begins (covert) hostilities against Earth, Andor, Tellar and other space-faring states.
2150 The last of the independent nations join United Earth, truly uniting the planet for the first time.
2156 The Romulan Star Empire begins attacking Earth colonies; the Romulan War begins.
2160 The Romulan War ends.
2161 United Earth joins Vulcan, Tellar and Andor in founding the United Federation of Planets.
