Historical Events

  • A new weapons classification system is adopted by Star Fleet, defining individual systems as either "light", "medium", or "heavy" in nature.[1]
  • The Keppler sub-class (of Ptolemy class) fleet tug/tenders start to be overhauled with the LN-52 warp engines.[2]
  • The final Class D6 work pod is removed from service with Star Fleet.[3]
  • The battle at Klach D'kel Brakt takes place between the Klingon and Romulan empires. The Romulans dispute Klingon possession of the mineral-rich planet along the border and are fought off by a Klingon force led by Kor.[4][5][6]
The Constitution article only references "the Klach D’Kel Brakt betrayal," but appears to be about an abrupt change in diplomatic affairs, signaled by a sneak attack. The unpublished LUG sourcebook "Blood & Honor" indicates the planetary contest was one of Romulan aggression.
  • The Klingon counter-offensive into Romulan space continues all to the to Tranome Sar, a system on the outskirts of the center of the Romulan Empire.[6]
Context suggests that the running battle ended only because Kor determined the Romulans understood the message that the Klingons were the superior warrior.
  • USS Benning (NCC-1244, Benning subclass heavy frigate) is declared lost.[7]
  • The Vulcan Science Directorate's T'Pari surveyors start receiving upgrades to the K’Kmarak standard.[8]
There is a chance this upgrade could be interpreted to apply to the Star Fleet Thuringias too, but that is (in my opinion) unlikely, due to the previous 850 mt installation of 2262.
  • Select command cruisers of the Unity class receive transporter upgrades to Mk IV standard.[10]
  • Twenty-two of the Okinawa class light frigates are selected for and begin refits to Flight II configuration.[11]
See the list in "Notes" section for known ships so converted.
  • Star Fleet uses precise targeting of torpedoes and phasers to resolve both severe tectonic activity and extremely cold polar fronts on Caldos II's terraforming project; orbital microwave conversion satellites are provided to power the necessary weather matrix grid.[14]
  • The USS Bader, USS Clifton, and USS Tombaugh (Bader class exploratory cruisers) host a series of Sagan Award recipients for the fourth year, while the USS Akela and USS Crescent retrace old survey routes.[15]
This occurs through 2274.
  • The last operational D6 work pod is removed from Star Fleet service.[16]
  • The final Solar Mk I class cutter is decmissioned from FCS service.[17]
The version never served with Star Fleet.
  • Type 10 ("Workbee") work pods now monitor the health of the pilot, activating an emergency beacon and returning to base when appropriate.[18]
  • The use of letter codes for non-line ships' registrations is discontinued for all newly-ordered vessels.[19]
They are also removed from (at least) the Procyon class corvettes and Hellespont class escorts around this time (and no later than the end of the decade, per SFC).
  • USS Crimea (NCC-3402) is the last of eight Hellespont class escorts lost to relatively lightly armed raiders, in an attack that claims the lives of her bridge crew.[20]
This has to happen after the Crimea has her registry updated.
  • The final Ranger Flight II courier is assembled.[21]
  • Star Fleet discovers it can achieve a more efficient warp reaction with a chamber containing both horizontal and vertical sections.[22]
  • Construction of six Chandley strike frigates in the Flight III configuration begins.[24]
  • The refittings of USS Monson (NCC-2303) and USS Tromp (Chandley class strike frigates) to Flight II configuration are completed.[24]
  • USS Tromp (Chandley class strike frigate) is lost to the Tholians during the ill-fated "fact-finding" expedition (and shortly after her Flt II conversion).[24]
  • The three original Flight I Brenton cruisers and the three Flight II command ships are brought back to the yards for linear-warp modernization to Flight III and IV standards, respectively.[25]
  • Construction begins on three new-build Brenton Flight III cruisers.[25]
  • Construction begins on three new-build Brenton Flight IV command ships.[25]
The vessels remain under production for the AIG until 2273.
  • May: USS Grouper (NCC-3471, Remora Flight II escort) explodes without warning while escorting a deuterium transport from Vega to Dinan; no reason is ever discovered.[28]
