The Jelna are a mammalian humanoid race originating from Rigel XVa. Jelnans have been a warp capable species since at least the mid-22nd century, and took part in the talks which leading to the formation of the United Federation of Planets.[2][3]
Appearance
Distinguished through their pale-yellow skin color, the Jelna have two types of the male and female genders each, endo- and exosexes, for a total of four genders. The exosexes possess an extra Z chromosome and outnumber the endosexes by 2 to 1. Endosexes are comparable to the male and female genders of typical humanoids. From an evolutionary standpoint, the exosexes are more robust and aggressive than endosexes and better adapted to handle hunting and gathering, while the gentler endosexes snurture the young. Exosexes are sallow-skinned and have a variety of eye colors. Endosexes are red-eyed and silver-skinned.[4]
Their internal physiology is similar to Vulcans and Romulans, blood chemistry included. The three races also have similar neurology, as they are each susceptible to Tuvan Syndrome, a neurological disease.[3]
Jelna are known to apply tattoos to their face and to adorn their hair with beads.[4]
