Summary
- Starfleet's Defense Command is deemed to have enough of the right type of ships to meet present Federation defensive needs (assuming no expansion).[1]
- Starfleet is considering meeting the current demands for cruisers in long-range support of the Federation, very little advance planning and virtually nothing in terms of contingency plans existed for the destroyer force. Considerations for defense of the outer systems under the UFP control lead to a light destroyer class as an answer.[1]
- Starfleet continues to significantly downscale its operations, hoping to provide time and resources for its reorganization.[2]
- The dockyards simply aren’t up to the task of building the numbers of heavy cruisers required.[3]
- By this year, areas patrollable by such small vessels are largely stabilized.[4]
