N’Garriez of Rigel VII was a prominent Orion merchant, anti-slavery activist, and a vital intelligence asset for the United Federation of Planets during the mid-23rd century. Dealing in high-value finished goods, minerals, and pergium, his commercial interests facilitated extensive travel through the Disputed Area and the Klingon Empire. He became a leading figure in the “Botchtok Whigs” (also known as Unit D), a clandestine network of liberal Orion mercantile elites that provided Federation Ambassador HW Rogers and Star Fleet Intelligence with real-time data on military movements and criminal activities.[1]

As a dedicated member of the Orion Anti-Slavery Society, N'Garriez detested the slave trade and is historically noted for exposing the Ku'lak guild’s 2259 slaving raids, an action that enabled Star Fleet’s Task Force Mendez to successfully intercept the raiding fleet. To 24th century historians, his personal accounts—most notably his published diaries, The Merchant of Worlds—remain indispensable primary sources for understanding individual agency within the tensions of the Federation-Klingon cold war. Although his intelligence network was systematically dismantled by the Klingon Ministry of Internal Security (RoH) in 2265, forcing him to vanish from public record for several years, N'Garriez resurfaced in the 2270s.[1]
