History
- Historical: Altair VI is the ancient homeworld of the Krell, while Altair IV is one of their colonial worlds.[1][2]
- No time frame is provided and no knowledge of this species is available.
- Historical: By a period of time that spans from the 16th century to the 20th, the Vegan Tyranny has established a hold on Altair VI.[1]
- 2098: Humans found a colony on Altair IV and make First Contact with the pre-warp Palkeo Est.[2][3]
- 2110: Humans found a colony on Altair III and make First Contact with the non-warp space-faring Altairians.[4][3]
- 2115: Altairians found a colony on Altair IV, in cooperation with the earlier Human colonies in-system.[3]
- 2121: Altairians found a colony on Altair VI, in cooperation with the earlier Human colonies in-system.[3]
- 2152: The Altairians formerly move the seat of their government from Altair III to Altair VI.[3]
- November 26, 2155: In the First Battle of Altair, a Romulan attack on Altair VI is thwarted by three Starfleet vessels coincidentally present to update the system's Vulcan warp detection suite.[5]
- June 20, 2156: In a second attempt to take Altair VI (i.e., the Second Battle of Altair), the Romulans are defeated by a large flotilla comprised of Andorian, Tellarite, and Human warships. The victory comes at a large loss of Andorian and Tellarite ships.[6]
- 2176: The United Federation of Planets extends membership to Altair VI.[7][3]
- 2210: Smoldering tension develops between the Altairians, Humans, & Palkeo Est of Altairs III & IV and the Altairian & Human government on Altair VI.[3]
- 2237: Altair VI is one of several members to express interest in forming separate "defense zones" inside the Federation.[7]
- 2255: The government of Altair VI takes part in the peace conference on Axanar, to negotiate its defense and return to the Federation.[3]
- February 2261: The Klingon Empire provides overt support to the Monarchist Front on Altair IV. This leads to a considerable increase in tensions between the indigenous Palkeo Est and the Altairians and Humans that have resided there for generations.[8][3]
- November 16th, 2261: In what becomes termed the Third Battle of Altair, the Monarchist Front attacks large numbers of targets on Altair IV, including government buildings, cultural sites important to Altairian & Human citizens, and shipping—grounded and orbital—associated with any species not aligned with the Palkeo Est nor Klingons.[3]
- The UFP and Klingon Empire both deploy starships to the region to ensure "their" side does not face intervention.
- April 4th, 2263: Following assertive diplomatic efforts by the UFP, Altair IV and Altair VI sign the Altair Accords, declaring a ceasefire between the indigenous Palkeo Est and the central authority on Altair VI and (apparently) resolving the cultural, economic, and governance issues that came to a head during the Third Battle of Altair.[3]
- March 2264: Klingon Imperial Intelligence begins arming the Monarchist Front on Altair IV with weaponry.[8][3]
- April 1st, 2264: The Altair Accords implode and, on Altair IV, hostilities from the Monarchist Front resume, empowered by Klingon weapons.[8][3]
- April 2265: An investigation reveals evidence that the United Planets of Tellar is financially backing the central authority on Altair VI, in violation of the Prime Directive.[8]
- March 30th 2267: Altair IV formerly declares its independence from Altair VI, leading to open conflict.[1][2]
- November 28th 2267: The Federation intervenes in the Altair conflict with peacekeepers and negotiates a resolution wherein all the inhabitants of the Altair system agree to a joint role in the new government, situated on Altair VI. The Federation also agrees to build a hospital on Altair IV.[1][2]
- 2269: The inhabitants of the Altair system rejoin the UFP as the "Altair Quadrant".[3][7]

Notes
- The use of "Altairian" is restricted to the indigenous people of Altair III. For the time being, "inhabitants of the Altair system" is being used to refer to the entire population of mixed species within the system, including the Humans and Palkeo Est.
- The source of the conflict between the colony planets (in SFC-canon) stems from Altair IV's earlier colonization and assistance with the founding of the other two. Eventually, a parent/colony relationship with the three developed (but from Altair VI), with resentment & animosity increasing over time.
- At one point I indicated this was a Tellarite colony or protectorate, but I cannot re-find any source that supports that.
- Altair withdrew at some point after the Babel Conference of 2238 and before the end of the Four Years War, as the system rejoined (according to the source) in the 2260s.
- The 2269 date is a best guess. The source indicates they were the last of three systems to rejoin the Federation in the 2260s, and TOS: "Amok Time" indicates three starships visited upon the occasion of the inauguration of the new president in 2267, which reportedly stabilized the area. The presumption is the system rejoined after a brief period of reformation.
- This system has a large number of comets.
