Historical Events
- Early to mid: Earth is attacked by a probe attempting to communicate with life in the oceans. A world-ending catastrophe is averted only when their message is responded to by previously-extinct humpback whales.[1]
- The DY-500 ceases to be used by any major corporations, though individual traders and minor companies may still employ them.[2]
- Conjecture, based on the statement that the DY-500s being used until the 2280s.
- A method to recrystallize dilithium using fission power is realized.[3]
- USS Republic (NCC-1371, Constitution heavy cruiser) is stripped of all armament, save for a single ceremonial laser, and reactivated as an Academy training ship.[4]
- The year is speculation, but it did occur in the late 2280s and would appear to have been for an extremely short period of time.
- Star Fleet decommissions all but 10 of the non-Andorian Loknars, with the remainder held in a reserve capacity.[5]
- USS Dominion (NCC-2115, Federation dreadnought) is placed into a reserve status.[6]
- The Cardassians make contact with the Klingon Empire in the Betreka Nebula. The First Cardassian-Klingon war begins.[7][8][9]
- The war would only end in 2304, after a long series of battles, raids, and skirmishes. The novel The Art of the Impossible indicates the conflict started in 2328, but SFC-canon is going with the unpublished LUG sources.
- USS Typhon (NCC-D867, Centaurus class) is ransacked by pirates identifiabled as Elasi, traceable to the Klingon intelligence payroll.[10]
- Data on Star Fleet defensive sensor networks in the Archanis sector is assumed compromised, and the whole Firechain tripwire system has to be abandoned.[10]
- In light of the Organians' disappearance, Kiaga and Agilis class perimeter action vessels are pressed back to service.[11]
- Indications are that they were limited in their usage prior to this, either as reserve vessels or conducting patrols of zones near to their non-front stations.
- Star Fleet ceases its subsidization and oversight program of the Velikovski prospector vessels.[12]
- Presumably, all vessels were sold off to their operators (or others).
- Officially, Star Fleet retires the Questor class runabouts from service.[13]
- Several distant outposts retained Questors for liaison tasks well into the 2320s.
- The final Darwin subclass light surveyor is delivered to Star Fleet.[14]
