Starfleet

Ranks are from the pre-2354 period.

Starfleet Operations/Command

Responsible for the core mission of Starfleet (exploration, defense, interstellar law enforcement), this is the primary component of the fleet. Other than the Starfleet Marine Corps, all operational forces fall under the umbrella of Starfleet Operations: ships-of-the-line, fighter squadrons and special forces (MeSONs). After the Romulan War, sector commands were established on planets the new United Federation of Planets considered the center of that specific region's governance (in a variation of how the UESF was organized). The more important and better explored sectors, usually located closer to Earth, had larger squadrons of ships available, while the more remote and less developed sectors (unless located along a major frontier border area) had less ships for the assigned squadron. The larger squadrons were commanded by Rear Admirals from a starbase (with Vice Admirals along a contentious border), while Commodores oversaw small squadrons, sometimes from a more remote space station or even from their own command.

  • Chief of Starfleet Operations (Admiral, PC)
    • Deputy Chief of Starfleet Operations (Rear Admiral, NPC)
    • Starship Operations (Rear Admiral, NPC)
      • Sector Commands/Squadrons (Vice Admirals, Rear Admirals, Commodores (all PCs))
    • Starfighter Operations (Rear Admiral, NPC)
      • Group (3 wings) (Captain, NPC)
        • Wing (3 squadrons) (Commander)
          • Squadron (20 fighters) (Lieutenant Commander)

      • Meson Group (4 squadrons) (Captain, NPC)
        • Meson Squadron (6 teams) (Commander)
          • Meson Team (20 Mesons) (Lieutenant Commander)

Starfleet Marine Corps

The Starfleet Marine Corps (SFMC) is a direct descendent of the United Earth's Military Assault Commandos (MACO), as well as the naval infantry of the other UFP founding members that participated in the Romulan War. The SFMC consolidated upon the UFP Starfleet's founding from available ground forces into several expeditionary forces, each led by a Lieutenant General. These expeditionary forces are deployed into major combat areas and are comprised of the number of divisions determined to be appropriate for that combat area. The Commandant of the Marine Corps is the only Marine with the rank of General, while the Assistant Commandant holds the rank of Lieutenant General. Starfleet Support Operations maintains assault ships built to deliver Marines to combat areas and transports to deliver them to staging areas. The SFMC also has a special operations force, called Rapid Reaction Teams (RRT), comprised of 12 Marines. These will usually be deployed on sector command ships, in order to be quickly available for small-scale incidents. Additionally, Starfleet will sometimes set aside ships-of-the-line (such as frigates, destroyers and light cruisers) dedicated to providing full and rapid support to Rapid Reaction Company, to provide a quick response solution.

Strategic Operations

Formulates the general strategic planning for fleet deployments, starship missions and fixed installation operations for all of Starfleet. It routinely organizes task forces and assigns flag officers (or senior personnel with specialized skills) to handle recent developments. The agency's role is of greater importance in times of crisis, such as threats to the security of the Federation. It is comprised of several committees, each handling the latest intelligence on any possible threat and comping up with doctrines -such as strategic plans, but also new ship, manpower and technological requirements- and then passing those onto the other components for review and action.
