Historical Events
- The last of the Baton Rouge sub-class is decommissioned. USS San Diego (NCC-1441) is preserved for posterity.[1]
- A decade after her decommissioning and bitter preservation battles, ex-USS Mojave becomes the sole museum specimen for the entire Texas family.[2]
- The last of the Rochester and Kitty Hawk sub-classes are decommissioned. As they are not cleared for foreign sales due to their advanced armament and the general policy change, the ships start to undergo scrapping, mostly at Aldebaran.[3]
- The last four Kitty Hawks-including USS Trailblazer (NCC-1596) and USS Scovil (NCC-1598)-had been quietly transferred to TacFleet and were not decommmisioned based upon this date.
- USS Kongo (NCC-1710, Constitution class) suffers a crippling onboard explosion.[4]
- USS Pompey (NCC-506) and USS Suleiman (NCC-508), both Pompey subclass, are retired.[5]
