The Federation Customs Service (FCS) is an agency within the United Federation of Planets that is responsible for collecting tariffs and for controlling the flow of goods, including animals, transports, personal, and hazardous items, into and across the borders of the Federation. Three basic missions of the FCS are taxation, security and trade facilitation.
The FCS is responsible for identifying the existence of naturally-occurring dilithium.[1]
Star Fleet has agreed, at times, to provide ships and crews for the purpose of enforcing the service's mandates.[2][3][4][5][6][7] It has also procured vessels that were originally designed or built for the FSC.[8]
