Historical Events

Background material is per the Star Trek Roleplaying Game, Book 7: Worlds. The year of admission is game-canon. Rigel IV is the second of three planets in the system to join the Federation.
  • Childress Camp on Rigel XII becomes a key refining plant for the entire sector, when the dilithium extraction equipment arrives.[1]
Background material is per the Star Trek Roleplaying Game, Book 7: Worlds.
  • The first of twelve Kovaris Flight II and Dace Flight II light destroyers are reactivated and upgraded (to the Kovaris Flight III standard) for emergency service in the wake of the Organian disappearance.[2]
  • USS Hamilton and USS Ark Royal, both Titan subclass shuttlecarriers, are mothballed again.[3]
  • Most of the original Syracuse subclass ships (in their current Siva Flight II configuration) have been decommissioned by this time.[4]
  • Star Fleet decides to collectively call the different standards and official subclasses of heavy cruisers "Constitution class", instead of using specific sub-variant names.[5]
  • All remaining (original) Texas class hulls, previously mothballed, are ordered scrapped, due to tightening Star Fleet budgets.[6]
  • The Kearsarge subclass light cruisers are decommissioned and mothballed (until 2093, when some are refitted).[7]
  • The final Ohio class light fleet tug is decommissioned.[8]
  • USS Compactat (NCC-2103, Federation dreadnought), operating as a training vessel, is deactivated.[9]
  • Four Okinawa Flight II light frigates (NCC-1257, 1269, 1285, and 1292) are selected to receive a scheduled installation of onboard laboratories (in 2290).[10]
The decision to make the installation in 2290 is because it was "after 2289" and it made more sense to do it well before their 2299 deactivation.
  • Detente with the Klingons results in some cutbacks to Star Fleet's strength.[10]
Timo does not indicate the Klingons are the other participants in the easing of tensions, but it seems the most likely option, by far.
  • The Okinawa light frigates, starting with the Flights I and with the exception of the four (NCC-1257, 1269, 1285, and 1292) selected for scientific upgrades, start decommissioning, as a result of the Klingon detente.[10]
Thee source seems to indicate the Okinawas were particularly targeted for the cutbacks, though not all of the non-survey frigates (Flights III), are decomm-ed prior to 2299.
