History
- 2190s: Human and Andorian prospectors establish scattered mining colonies on Rigel XII, with the lithium-cracking plant at Childress Camp the largest.[1]
- 2287: Childress Camp becomes a key refining plant for the entire sector with the installation of dilithium extraction equipment.[1]

Notes
- Rigel XII has naturally-occurring lithium crystals that can be mined at high levels of purity; dilithium exists in plentiful quantities beneath the frozen sea of the north pole (requiring expensive & bulky equipment).[3]
- The Hakel radiation belt emitted by Beta Rigel A provides a "green zone" environment for all the planets—including those in orbit of Beta Rigel BC—with the exception of Rigel I and the asteroid belt situated in the orbit just beyond it.
