- These newbuilds will be the more modern Beowulf sub-class.
- The final Pyotr Velikiy (Mk I) class heavy cruiser is completed (and enters service).[2]
- Construction begins on USS Beowulf (NCC-1690, first of her sub-class), a modernized Pyotr Velikiy class heavy cruiser.[2]
- USS Republic (NCC-1371, Constitution) is re-assigned to training duty.[3]
- USS Bonhomme Richard (NCC-1712, USS Bonhomme Richard subclass) begins construction.[3]
- The final newbuild Constitution class heavy cruiser (USS Potemkin, NCC-1711) is completed.[3]
