* My development concept is to make this either an Andorian or Tellarite design, offered up to the [[Exploration Command]] in limited numbers. As an "alien" design, it should be radically different than contemporaneous Terran designs. My suggestions, from the [[Help:Scratchpad/Ship Gallery|ship gallery]]:
* '''Decision''': Adrasil went with the "G-class transport" design, with an agreement that it would represent a Tellarite scout ship. I can work well with this.

: The last sample would have to be Terran, with an appropriate and underwhelming back story. The first three could stand in as inspirations for "alien" candidates for the ''Tuverlind''.

Background: Delta Dynamics

  • Introduced in 2145 as a scouting extension of the Pralim "exploratory" transport project. Over 60 were built (two for each operating Pralim, with a series of rotational spares).
  • As regional tensions mounted in the 2150s, the Tellarites pulled the scouts back, having them operate in exploratory groups with a flotilla of Pralims for protection. When the conflicted heated up, they were withdrawn completely from resource scouting, returned to Tellar, with a few were assigned missions as identified by the Humans.
  • After the war, the nine best-condition vessels were transferred to the UFP Star Fleet (and Exploration Command, specifically). They were assigned registries in the NCC-Q range. Along with the Podishes, they received a reputation for poor reliability.[1]
  • In 2213, the remaining Podishes and Tuverlinds were transferred to testbed status, for the development of the Pleshun PB-25 "Perth" nacelle. The vessels from both classes were unceremoniously decommissioned in 2227, upon completion of testing.

Notes

  • From a 3D file found on the internet:
The Tuverlind was the second class of experimental Superscouts, this one based off a new technology space frame. Like the Podish, the Tuverlind was designed with reliability in mind. Dual PB-25 warp nacelles gave a cruising speed of Warp 4 and an emergency speed of Warp 7. The Tuverlind lacks the photon torpedo launcher on deck 3, the space being given over to a specialized cryptographic computer tied into a universal translator server matrix. It does have enough phaser mounts (12) to put up a good fight if needed. The Tuverlind generally patrols farther out from a system, using active and passive sensors to gather data. It's got a longer endurance rating than the Podish class and it can stay on station roughly twice as long. The pylon on the Tuverlind that carries the main sensor dish allows the dish to be disconnected on a routine basis and replaced with either a specialized ECM/ECCM pod or a AN/SPA-7 Radome that triples the active sensor range of the ship*. These fittings can be carried on the ship in a specialized area or kept at the nearest star base. The pod or the radome can be beamed on or off board the ship after they are disconnected from the pylon. There is a dedicated cargo transporter unit for this purpose. A EVA by the ship's engineering crew would manage the final connection.
* - The ecm/eccm pod and the An/SPA-7 radome are rated for a maximum speed of Warp 5. Exceeding this rated velocity may result in damage to either unit or the ship itself. The standard sensor dish and mount is rated to Warp 8.
The text from the readme file came with data for a 3D model for use in the Birth of the Federation computer game. The model itself was inaccessible, but I suspect the intent was for it to resemble an early TOS-era single-saucer/two (undersling) nacelle type of scout vessel.
  • As far as I can determine, the Tuverlind was never depicted, but referenced in the ~1990 MasterCom "Star Fleet Enginery" chart, in regards to the PB-25 nacelle: "They eventually found their way into fledgling high-speed scout and superscout designs, including the Podish (NCC-310) and Tuverlind (NCC-341) classes."
Timo modified the class' relationship to the nacelle, indicating (in Guide: Podish): "The complex design [i.e., the modified Podish] entered operational trials in parallel with a similar Tuverlind modification and was eventually cleared for a dash speed of warp 7.3." The Podishes were retired soon after. The only other reference to Tuverlind was in Guide: Hale: "The "scout gap" of the turn of the century was not quite filled by the introduction of the mere forty Podish and Tuverlind scoutships." This means nine Tuverlinds were initially transferred to Star Fleet. Timo does not use the term "superscout" in relation to the Tuverlinds.
  • Decision: Adrasil went with the "G-class transport" design, with an agreement that it would represent a Tellarite scout ship. I can work well with this.
