In 453, a Debrune flotilla led by Vice Admiral Torek—splintered off from the Romulan diaspora—approached Rigel V with the intention of conquering the planet (from the indigenous Kaylar) and settling upon it. The Kaylar were armed by Orions seeking to prevent any local competition, resulting in a century of conflict; the V'gelnians—their demonym for the planet they named—succeeded in claiming the southern continent of Han-shir. Negotiating with the Orions, the V'gelnians spent the following decades forcefully removing the Kaylar and relocating them to what would eventually be known as Rigel VII. They eventually renamed themselves the Zami.[1][2]
Appearance
The vulcanoid Zami are indistinguishable from their Vulcan and Romulan counterparts, as they are a splinter society from the two. Primitive equipment may be unable to determine a Zami from a Vulcan, as the two share almost identical physiologies. However, certain medications and treatments cannot automatically be assumed to work on both species, likely attributed to their divergent development. They have the same physical features, copper-based blood, and similar levels of strength. Zami, like Vulcans, are also susceptible to Tuvan syndrome. Vulcanoid Zami are also capable of mind-melding with others.[1]
