Research & Development Command
Summary
In 2161, the new Star Fleet was organized around the specialization and available assets of its founding members. As Vulcan's science advancements were unchallenged by any of the four other members of the new United Federation of Planets, it was decided the nation would devote its space assets in continuing the pursuit of scientific knowledge and technological development. While all founding members would continue to operate intra-system guard forces, the Vulcan Expeditionary Group assigned the best of its scientific research vessels to the Star Fleet Research & Development Command.
The Vulcan High Command designated T'Viri to be the first Chief of Staff of Research & Development. She was commissioned as a Star Fleet admiral and she served as one of the initial five Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The Chief of Staff for Research & Development is a PC and directly controls the ships and other assets that are assigned to Research & Development Command. The Deputy Chief of Staff for Research & Development is a named NPC. In 2208, upon Star Fleet's re-organization, the positions are reconstituted with new roles and titles.
