Historical Events

• The use of letter codes for non-line ships' registrations was discontinued for all newly-ordered vessels.

• The United Federation of Planets extends membership to Rigel III (the Chelarians).

Background material is per the Star Trek Roleplaying Game, Book 7: Worlds. The year of admission is game-canon. Rigel III is the first of three planets in the system to join the Federation.

• USS Siva (NCC-520, Siva II sub-class) receives an experimental second nacelle on her dorsal, initiating the Siva III sub-class.

• The Constitution class heavy cruiser (including that of the Bonhomme Richard and Victory subclasses) is formally stricken from the Star Fleet Starship Register.

It is possible that the last ship actually converted to an upgraded class, which is why it is not mentioned they are individually decommissioned.
