• Attacks against Earth colonies were generally seen as the beginning of the actual Romulan war.
• The first punitive missions against the Romulans began, as the forces of Earth, Andoria, Tellar and other allies begin to wage war against the Romulans.
• USS Kaiser (FC-87) lost to structural failure during Exercise Deep Vigil, actually an unsuccessful operation aimed at intimidating the Ophiucus colony into returning to Earth control.

The loss of the Kaiser is assumed; the date of 2156 is significant because it marks the construction of the second flight of the Siebel subclass. However, it makes for a adequate reference point for both Exercises, which remain otherwise undated in the article.

• The second flight of Siebel class strike transport (FC-100) enters service with the United Earth Starfleet.
