Historical Events

  • The Romulans penetrate the interplanetary security of the Sector 5B Mining Complex, destroying this important allied resource.[1]
The year of the attack is moved forward to accommodate the stated year of official hostilities.
  • A Mercury hull under construction is modified to become the first Doppler class scout.[2]
  • The Romulans conduct a starship suicide attack on the planet Vulcan.[3]
  • The loss of six more Daedalus corvettes prior to the end of the year leads the class to be relegated to secondary roles shortly thereafter.[4]
  • The Ganges class destroyers receive the 1-layer graviton/subspace globular forcefield during upgrade.[5]
  • The Minuteman design is selected for the UESF's new deep-space destroyer class.[6]
  • UESF Command composes the ‘seventy per cent deal’, where 70% of the cost of an Enterprise class explorer will be budgeted to other ship classes for each one built.[7]
  • Construction of the Chryse subclass transports begins.[8]
  • First contact between Humans and Saurians occurs with the crew of an Earth freighter; the Humans provide warp technology.[9]
These mergers will be complete by the time of the UFP visit in 2162.
  • The Neptune SV-50 surveyor subclass is retired from service with the UE Starfleet.[11]
  • Construction begins on the Poseidon class heavy cruiser.[12]
  • February 16: A Starfleet task force engages Romulan forces seeking out a Vissian listening post coreward of Romulan space in the Gamma Hydrae Sector. After suffering the loss of 5 vessels, the surviving Human ships are saved by the arrival of 10 Vissian warships that force a Romulan retreat.[13][14]
  • March: The Vissians deny the United Earth request to join the war against the Romulan Star Empire, and instead pass a permanent embargo of advanced technology to "immature civilizations".[15][14]
  • June: The Mercury scout class suffers its sixth and final loss in a single year, presumably to Romulan action., presumably to Romulan action.[16]
  • June: USS Candace (S-5665, Mercury class) is damaged in an encounter with Romulan forces.[16]

  • July: Concurrent design, development and construction of the Achilles and Helena class cruisers begins.[7]
Month is conjecture, though the project took 8 months total for the first Achilles' to be fully produced in 2158.
  • August 22: In a small engagement between Starfleet and a Romulan warbird in the vicinity of Galorndon Core, the IRW Raon impacts the planet while at warp 4, devastating the Class M planet. The Human scientists on the planet are evacuated safely prior to the impact, but the large deposits of crystallized lithium with hypersonic characteristics they were studying react poorly in the explosion, enhancing the devastation.[17][14]
  • September: USS Candace re-launches, is hijacked by stranded Romulans, recovered by the USS Jackson (Cavalry class), and returned to drydock for repairs.[16]
The hijacking occurred three months after its initial encounter in June.
  • November 10: An approximately equal number of Starfleet and Romulan warships engage in a battle in the same system as Prantares, resulting in a tactical draw with heavy losses on both sides.[18]
