Historical Events

  • (confirm) June: The first of six Mercury class scouts (in one year) is lost, presumably to Romulan action.[1]
  • June: Admiral Rex Gunther, aboard his flagship, meets a solitary Romulan U-13 class cruiser near Eta Leonis VI. Instead of attacking, Admiral Gunther follows Thorpe's instructions, opens known Romulan hailing frequencies, and warns the invading ship of his orders. Gunther gives the Romulan government six months to respond. Otherwise, it means war. Though the Romulan ship does not communicate, it is permitted to depart with the warning. This marks the sole meeting of Earth and Romulan warships without bloodshed on either side.[2]
  • (confirm) Attacks against Earth colonies were generally seen as the beginning of the actual Romulan war.[3]
  • (confirm) The Marshall class heavy destroyer enters service with the UESF.[4]
  • October 14: Since Admiral Gunther issued his warning, at least one allied warship has remained in the vicinity of Eta Leonis VI, awaiting a Romulan response. The USS Patton a brand-new Marshall class destroyer, is the ship on picket duty when three U-15 class cruisers close, in the Tri-Beta Sector advancing on the Rigel star system. While decelerating, the Romulans open fire. The Patton's Captain Joseph Spadora makes one transmission before a Romulan cruiser fires a single guided missile. The torpedo hits the side of the Patton, totally disintegrating it. Spadora's message is received by other vessels in the area and relayed throughout the Federation. The Romulans' intentions are clear, and war is officially declared.[2]
  • (confirm) The first punitive missions against the Romulans began, as the forces of Earth, Andoria, Tellar and other allies begin to wage war against the Romulans.[5][3]
  • (confirm) USS Kaiser (FC-87) lost to structural failure during Exercise Deep Vigil, actually an unsuccessful operation aimed at intimidating the Ophiucus colony into returning to Earth control.[6]
The loss of the Kaiser is assumed; the date of 2156 is significant because it marks the construction of the second flight of the Siebel subclass. However, it makes for an adequate reference point for both Exercises, which remain otherwise undated in the article.
  • (confirm) The third flight of Durance class transports, the Redstone subclass, entered service with the UE Starfleet.[7]
The date of first service is assummed, as the source does not say when they were produced, other than to suggest they were the result of wartime production.
  • (confirm) On the most endangered shipping lanes, convoying was changed from constant escort to relay tactics.[8]
  • (confirm) The fourth ship of the Enterprise class is launched.[9]
The assumption of the year is based on there being four in existence by the Romulan War.
  • (confirm) The last of the first run Cavalries is completed.[10]
  • (confirm) The seventh and final Edison class ship is due to be received.[11]
  • The DY-1250 Dare patrol corvette is removed from active service.[12]
