4.3 Resistance
(Required)
Cost: Base amount of 2 per hull (outer & inner) free. Additional 3 SUs per +2 points per hull, with a maximum of 8 for pre-2291 and 10 for post-2290 ships.
Power Requirement: none
While starships primarily rely upon their shields for protection against outside sources of damage, hulls themselves provide a small amount of additional protection against attacks that penetrate the shields. This is known as Resistance. Both the outer and inner hulls provide Resistance; it is bought separately for each hull. Each has 2 points of Resistance automatically and for free. Resistance does not protect against many forms of hull stress which affect the entire vessel; that’s the function of the SIF.
SFC Technology Index
The Resistance of a starship (small craft, station, et al) is a feature manufactured by the shipwright specifically for the ship contracted. As such, resistance has no index.
