Torek was a vice admiral in the diaspora fleet abandoning Vulcan for a new homeworld in 369. He served as a deputy to Admiral Debrune in the rear of the migration, assisting in the administration of mismatched and straggling vessels.[1][2][3][4]

At some point (before 453), Debrune ordered the remainder of the stragglers split into two groups, one led by Torek. This flotilla would invade Rigel V in 453, forming a permanent settlement and society initially referred to as the V'gelnians—their demonym for the planet they named—and then the Zami.[1][2][3][4][5]
