Cait (or Regulus V) is the second planet (of twelve) in the 15 Lyncis system, the homeworld of the Caitian species.[1] It orbits an F class white star.[2] The asteroid belt that lies between the fifth and sixth planets of the Caitian system is an abundant source of ores and valuable minerals, not the least of which is dilithium. Orbital refining platforms within the belt provide a large percentage of the dilithium crystals used in that area of Federation space.[1]

History
- 2219: The Caitians have first contact with the Orions, then the Ferengi and UFP shortly thereafter.[3][4]
- The original date of 2249 (in Memory Beta) conflicts with other issues, so it has been pushed forward.
- 2249: The United Federation of Planets extends membership to Cait and its colonies.[5]
- This is pushed forward from the non-canon 2272 to resolve some dating issues.
- 2250s: The Federation expands production of the Aakenn class heavy transport to Cait.[6]
- 2298: The Tholian Assembly reschedules a diplomatic meeting with the Federation to occur in the Cait system.[2]

- Four other planets in the Federation have Caitian populations: Havelind, Hochlor IV, Macadarna, and Narval. The first two were pre-UFP colonies (2238 & 2240), while the latter two (2257 & 2260) occurred after membership was acquired. A Caitian colony on Kirisha (founded 2292) experienced a brief war with the Regnancy of the Carnelian Throne.[3][4]
- Memory Beta claims Cait joined the UFP in the 2270s, however there is no citation for this. The first contact given by Memory Beta (2249) has been pushed forward to 2219.
- Memory Beta also claims the system only has 2 planets, but this is being disregarded.
- The term "feline Regulan" has been applied by Last Unicorn Games (due to license issues) to Caitians. The term "Regulan" may possibly apply to another species native to the Regulus system. SFC-canon has Caitians and feline Regulans to have identical DNA, suggesting the latter probably originates from a colony established by the former, taking on a different identification for cultural reasons. The Regulans will join the UFP at a later point.
