The Draylaxians are a feline race from the homeworld of Draylax, the second world in the Epsilon Indi system. They had their first contact with Humanity at some point following the Vulcan First Contact (of Humanity) in 2063 and the May 2080 arrival of the sublight explorer UNSS Icarus.[2][3] A commercial shipping lane established between Earth and Draylax remained operational up until May of 2160, when Romulans attacked the planet using a warp-speed kamikaze run, causing massive fires and volcanic eruptions all over the planet. Over a billion Draylaxians were killed. Observers of the post-attack rescue operations supposed the species would never recover.[4][5]

The Draylaxians were known to have a very slow legal process, which sometimes inhibited quick action by the government. In 2156, the Draylaxian ambassador, Grethe Zhor, offered to attempt to hurry the legal process along in order to bring the Draylaxians into the Earth-Romulan War. They finally joined the conflict in February of 2160, sending ships to an engagement at Tenebia due to it being close to home. Their flotilla suffered greatly and the Dratlaxians made plans to scale back their involvement.[5]

Appearance

The Draylaxians are a feline species with leonine facial features. Their "mane" grows from their head (rather than the neckline of a Terran lion). The females grow three breasts upon sexual maturity.

Notes

  • Presumably, due to their early and positive contact with Humanity and local homeworld, the Draylaxians would have joined the nascent Federation. However, the devastation wrought by the Romulan attack decimated any sense of governance and created a regional diaspora of the species, so no coherent population existed to petition and join.[2]
