5.4 Crew Quarters

(Required)
Cost: Varies. See below
Power Requirement: none

Star Fleet makes use of seven types of quarters for the crew:

Barracks: 1 SU per 60 quarters. Primarily for enlisted or troops. These were generally not used on most Star Fleet ships after 2290.
Spartan: 1 SU per 20 quarters. These are two bunks per room (vice beds) and are usually employed on the more short-range or militarily-oriented vessels, such as escorts.
Basic: 1 SU per 10 quarters. These are generally characterized by a simple 2-bed room, sharing a head with another similar space. They were most often used by enlisted and low-ranking officers.
Expanded: 1 SU per 5 quarters. Larger and more luxurious; they were often used by families (when Star Fleet made allowances for them) and mid-ranking officers.
Luxury: 1 SU per 1 quarters. These are the top-of-the-line quarters: large, multi-room suites with lots of amenities. These were used by senior officers, diplomats ad VIPs.
Unusual: 1 SU per 1 quarters. These rooms were set aside for special residents requiring specific conditions, such as non-oxygen atmosphere, water, low-gravity, etc. These spaces have most of the equipment needed surrounding the immediate area. For conditions that varied only slightly, usually 10% each of the Basic, Expanded and Luxury quarters can be so adapted.
Cryogenic: 1 SU per 60 quarters. Beginning in 1996, cryogenic equipment was used for long-range missions. These are rare, even within the 23rd century.

Cardassian: On a Central Command ship, often a significant percentage of the crew accomodations are Spartan. Unlike the Federation, the Cardassian Union doesn’t have the resources to waste making lowly soldiers’ quarters the lap of luxury. Some Cardassian ships even use “hot racking,” a system in which two or three crewmembers share the same rack (bed), with one sleeping while the other two are on duty. Represent this by providing either one- or two-thirds the number of racks as per crewmen.

Klingon: Klingon warriors eschew the “creature comforts” so common on Star Fleet and Romulan vessels. Instead, they prefer to demonstrate their strength, stamina, and toughness by making things as hard on themselves as possible. For this reason, and not coincidentally because of the small size of many Klingon ships, Spartan quarters (each housing two persons) predominate on the vessels of the Empire. Basic, Expanded, and Luxury quarters are typically reserved for officers, older crewmembers whose backs and bones no longer tolerate cold, hard bunks so well, diplomats, and visitors. The general passenger accommodations are Barracks.

Below are two tables. The first details the usual breakdown of quarters for the pre-24th century eras, and the second for the 24th century and later eras.
