Delta Annari hail from the Delta Quadrant, with green or greenish-brown skin and many bony facial structures. Their government was the Annari Empire, which—as of 2374 at the latest—was at war with the Kraylor, enforcing a blockade of the Kraylor homeworld.[2]
Originally encountered by USS Voyager (NCC-74656, Intrepid class long-range explorer) in 2377, they were the first of the two Annari species encountered by the Federation and initially referred to simply as Annari.[2] They are genetically related to the Beta Annari, originally encountered in the Beta Quadrant at some point after 2377.[1]
Physiology
Annari are humanoid, typically of average to slightly above-average Human height, with green to greenish‑brown skin and pronounced bony facial ridges that frame the brow and cheeks. These dermal and subdermal ridges act as both protection and heat sinks, channeling excess metabolic heat away from the cranium in colder environments, which matches reports that Annari vessels operate comfortably at temperatures that many Humans find chilly. Dark brown head hair is common, usually worn short or in tightly controlled styles, reflecting both cultural discipline and the practical need to keep hair away from the bony facial structures.[1]
Reproduction, Development, & Lifespan
Annari are sexually dimorphic but only subtly so, with differences mostly in body mass distribution and facial ridge prominence rather than dramatic height or coloration contrasts. Gestation is moderately long by humanoid standards, producing infants with relatively advanced musculoskeletal and thermoregulatory development so they can tolerate cooler environments from an early age. Average lifespan is comparable to or slightly shorter than that of Humans, but Annari tend to reach physical and cognitive maturity earlier, which dovetails with their structured, militarized education systems, and early specialization in technical or administrative roles.
