Star Fleet Command

• Back to Starfleet Organization

Responsible for the core mission of Starfleet (exploration, defense, interstellar law enforcement), Starfleet Operations (also known as Starfleet Command) is the primary component of the fleet. Other than the Starfleet Marine Corps, all operational forces fall under the umbrella of Starfleet Operations: ships-of-the-line, fighter squadrons and special forces (MeSONs). After the Romulan War, sector commands were established on planets the new United Federation of Planets considered the center of that specific region's governance (in a variation of how the UESF was organized). The more important and better explored sectors, usually located closer to Earth, had larger squadrons of ships available, while the more remote and less developed sectors (unless located along a major frontier border area) had less ships for the assigned squadron. The larger squadrons were commanded by Rear Admirals from a starbase (with Vice Admirals along a contentious border), while Commodores oversaw small squadrons, sometimes from a more remote space station or even from their own starship.

The Chief of Starfleet Operations is an Admiral, while the Deputy Chief is a Vice Admiral.

The Chief of Starfleet Operations is a PC and directly communicates with the sector commanders, in order to assign the relevant missions. He also decides which sectors get the newly commissioned vessels (starships, starfighters, etc.), as they come available. Additionally, he handles the Starfighter and Special Operations offices.
The Deputy Chief of Starfleet Operations is a named NPC.
