History
- Historical: Altair VI is the ancient homeworld of the Krell, while Altair IV is one of their colonial worlds.[1][2]
- No time frame is provided and no knowledge of this species is available.
- Historical: By a period of time that spans from the 16th century to the 20th, the Vegan Tyranny has established a hold on Altair VI.[1]
- 2098: Humans found a colony on Altair IV and make First Contact with the pre-warp Palkeo Est.[2][3]
- 2110: Humans found a colony on Altair III.[4][3]
- November 26, 2155: A Romulan attack on Altair VI is thwarted by three Starfleet vessels coincidentally present to update the system's Vulcan warp detection suite.[5]
- June 20, 2156: In another attempt to take Altair VI, the Romulans are defeated by a large flotilla comprised of Andorian, Tellarite, and Human warships. The victory comes at a large loss of Andorian and Tellarite ships.[6]
- 2176: The United Federation of Planets extends membership to Altair VI.[7][3]
- 2237: Altair VI is one of several members to express interest in forming separate "defense zones" inside the Federation.[7]
- 2267: Altair IV formerly declares its independence from Altair VI, leading to open conflict. The Federation intervenes with peacekeepers and negotiates a resolution wherein all the inhabitants of the Altair system agree to a joint role in the new government, situated on Altair VI. The Federation also agrees to build a hospital on Altair IV.[1][2]
- 2269: The inhabitants of the Altair system rejoin the UFP as the "Altair Quadrant".[3][7]
Important Locations

Notes
- The use of "Altairian" is restricted to the indigenous people of Altair III. For the time being, "inhabitants of the Altair system" is being used to refer to the entire population of mixed species within the system, including the Altairians and the Palkeo Est.
- The source of the conflict between the colony planets (in SFC-canon) stems from Altair IV's earlier colonization and assistance with the founding of the other two. Eventually, a parent/colony relationship with the three developed, with animosity increasing.
- At one point I indicated this was a Tellarite colony or protectorate, but I cannot re-find any source that supports that.
- Altair withdrew at some point after the Babel Conference of 2238 and before the end of the Four Years War, as the system rejoined (according to the source) in the 2260s.
- The 2269 date is a best guess. The source indicates they were the last of three systems to rejoin the Federation in the 2260s, and TOS: "Amok Time" indicates three starships visited upon the occasion of the inauguration of the new president in 2267, which reportedly stabilized the area. The presumption is the system rejoined after a brief period of reformation.
- This system has a large number of comets.
