China was a late but enthusiastic entrant to the space-faring neighborhood, having been jump-started by the investment of technology by the Great Khanate, in exchange for protected real estate and the necessary capital. China was able to procure about 7% of available resources and was quick to develop a combined shipyard/spaceport on Hainan Island. It held onto its resource assets when the Eurasion Confederation (EC) quickly formed and seized what resources it could in 1996, and witnessed what collaboration could accomplish when the Western Alliance -and later the New United Nations- repeated the EC's success. In 2031, China itself initialized the formation of the super-alliance, the Eastern Coalition (ECON), in which it had a large influence. In 2155, China itself was formally absorbed into the ECON.
