- Rantura was mostly a shipping company until entering the shipbuilding industry with the Samson contract. It apparently wanted to influence the development of new shipping lines in forward areas, and decided the best way to influence Star Fleet's defense policies was to give it the ability to move larger space stations to areas that might warrant a greater enforcement presence. It may be presumed they had taken over some large-scale shipbuilding facility, in order to do so.
