Historical Events

• February: Construction ceases on the Seneca, in favor of the more traditional, less ambitious Guardian series of large manned combat spacecraft.

The date construction ceased is assumed.

• 01 May: World War Three, waged in part with nuclear weapons, breaks out, resulting in the deaths of an estimated 600 million. One side was comprised of the United States and the European Alliance; the other side was the Eastern Coalition.
• The repaired Columbus was destroyed by an Econ kinetic-kill missile on Earth orbit before she had the chance to fire a single shot.

There is no indication as to whether or not the Columbus was destroyed in the hostilities leading up to World War III, in the opening salvos or in the conflict that followed.

• The New United Nations collapses, in light of the world war, but is resurrected in 2065.

The date of the initial collapse of the NUN is assumed to occur with the arrival of WWIII.

• All six O'Neil colonies were self-sustaining enough that they all survived the nuclear exchanges of World War Three and the subsequent chaos.
