Historical Events
- Interferometry telescopy and probe flybys had already confirmed the existence of at least seven planets in the a Centauri system, assured the scientists that return propellant could be manufactured there, and hinted at the presence of carbon-based life on the fourth and seventh planets of a Centauri A.[1]
- Four systems (other than the a Centauri system) have been visited by Earth probes and have returned. [2]
- All five Columbus class spaceframes were ready. [3]
- late September: A serious accident during the fueling of UNSS Columbus led to eight fatalities and damaged the spacecraft. Her mission to a Centauri had to be given to UNSS Icarus and the journey of that ship to 40 Eridani delayed indefinitely.[4]
