History
- Early 2240s: Single-ship Klingon raiders make infrequent raids upon the various settlements on New Montevideo, exacerbating the challenges that come with dramatically decreasing crop yields.[1]
- 2244: Various mid-level Star Fleet admirals and staff officers issue formal warnings regarding the possibility of famines and disease outbreaks on the frontier.[2]
- These are determined to have been deliberately ignored by Star Fleet's commander-in-chief and senior planners.
- 2245: A severe famine on New Montevideo receives no actual assistance from the Federation due to logistical paralysis from lack of prior awareness and concern over potential Klingon aggression. A massive number of colonists lose their lives from starvation and disease.[1][3]
- November 2245: Public outrage over the government’s perceived negligence on Tarsus IV and the other frontier worlds triggers a landslide vote of no confidence, resulting in the collapse of President Samuel Solomon Qasr’s administration.[3]
Notes
- The planet must be significantly remote as to be an issue when (in 2245) the famine conditions become clear.
