History

  • 2244: Various mid-level Star Fleet admirals and staff officers issue formal warnings regarding the possibility of famines and disease outbreaks on the frontier.[1]
These are determined to have been deliberately ignored by Star Fleet's commander-in-chief and senior planners.
  • 2245: Tarsus IV suffers a total ecological failure, resulting in a food supply collapse and the onset of a mass famine. The Federation fails to provide adequate logistical support or emergency supplies during the initial year of the famine, leading to significant loss of life.[2]
  • November 2245: Public outrage over the government’s perceived negligence on Tarsus IV and the other frontier worlds triggers a landslide vote of no confidence, resulting in the collapse of President Samuel Solomon Qasr’s administration.[2]
  • July 11th 2246: Facing absolute resource depletion and continued absence of Star Fleet relief, Governor Adrian Kodos declares martial law. He issues the "infamous decimation order," commanding the systematic execution of 4,000 colonists—exactly half the remaining population—to ensure remaining food supplies sustain the survivors.[2]
  • Late July 2246: Star Fleet forces finally arrive at the colony, but only after Kodos's executions have already been carried out. The massacre becomes a defining trauma for the Federation. Decades later, survivors like E'iyan Xu recall the "blinding light" of the executions, a memory used in political advertisements to evoke public fear.[2]

Notes

  • The planet must be significantly remote as to be an issue when (in 2245) the famine conditions become clear.
