Star Fleet Ground Attack Marines

The Star Fleet Ground Attack Marines (SFGAM) (later the Star Fleet Marine Corps) are a direct descendant of the United Earth's Military Assault Commandos (MACO), as well as the naval infantry of the other UFP founding members that participated in the Romulan War. Upon the UFP Star Fleet's founding, the SFGAM was consolidated from available ground units into several expeditionary forces, each led by a Lieutenant General (who themselves reported to the Commandant of the Marines).

These expeditionary forces are deployed from each of the five founding worlds into major combat areas of operation (CAO) and are comprised of the number of divisions determined to be appropriate to the situation. Logistics Command maintains transports to deliver Marines to combat areas and assault ships to the battlefield, whether they be on a planetary surface or other stellar body.

Enlisted Marines would receive their initial training on one of the founding worlds, each also a center of one or more environmental training centers (see below), while officers would graduate from Star Fleet Academy. From there, they would proceed to one of the two possible posts, an expeditionary force (usually at the battalion level) or to the Fleet Marine Force, to serve onboard a Defense Command ship or at any number of Star Fleet facilities or Federation embassies or consulates.

The Commandant of the Marine Corps is the only Marine with the rank of General, while the Assistant Commandant holds the rank of Lieutenant General.

In 2208, during Star Fleet's re-organization, the SFGAM was re-named the Star Fleet Marine Corps.

The Commandant of Star Fleet Marine Corps is a PC and handles all aspects of the SFMC in-game. This includes working with the Chiefs of Star Fleet and Support Operations (and their subordinates) to get his Marines on-board deploying ships, to forward-staged areas or to the combat zone.
The Assistant Commandant of Star Fleet Marine Corps is a named NPC.
