These represent columns of sectors grouped by the two situated above and below the Federation galactic plane.
Method: 3D-izing a 2D Sector
The process of turning the SST "UFP 2371" campaign into a functional 3D campaign (currently "2062") involves the following steps, to ensure uniformity between the sector columns:
- Identify four base sectors: These four sectors will comprise the initial basis of the new sector column. The first two will be the one sector depicted in Star Charts and its "canon" sister sector that resides below it. The "Federation plane" runs between these two sectors. Above the higher of the two is the top "non-canon" sector; beneath the lower is the bottom "non-canon" sector. (It can be helpful to write these four—top to bottom—on a flashcard, including their proper names & designations, if known.)
- "Sector Designation" pages: Even if the proper sector names are known, each of these sectors must have a Sector Designation page built. Each sector has a designation in the numeric format of ##-##-###-##, which can be verified with the Master Sector Chart. The page will be titled "Sector ##-##-###-##".
- Paste the sector template from Help:Sectors onto the blank page and save.
- If the sector already has a proper name, move the page to that proper name (ex: "Bolarus Sector") now (for the purpose of establishing a redirect from the designation name).
- Populate each sector page with the pertinent and (presently) known info: banner name, sector name (proper, if known), designation, quadrant, chart name.
- For Column, the two inserted names are those of the "canon" sectors, or the two that straddle the Z-axis Federation plane (Z=0). If one (or both) of these two sector do not have a formal name, this is the time to give it the most appropriate one possible (it can always be changed later).
- For Coordinate Ranges, the X and Y values should be identical; only the Z values change, as the column is defined on that axis. Don't forget to add the Level/Sub indicator within the empty parentheses.
- For the categories located at the bottom, select the set for either unnamed sectors (first set) or named sectors (2nd set) and filling in the missing data.
- Create Sector categories: This only applies to properly-named sectors. Click on the redlink found for that named sector and paste in the following text, modifying with the relevant sector name:
'''These are stars systems and other locations within [[***** Sector]].'''
- Create Sector Column category: Create the sector column category by clicking on any of its links from one of the four articles. Copy the text from within any of the existing categories found at on this page and modify with the two relevant Federation plane sector names.
- Identify Federation plane systems: Using the Modiphius 2371 map as a trusted version of the Star Chart maps, identify each system and other interstellar feature located within the target sector. Identify which ones are canonically located in which sector and—on a document with all four sectors—list them accordingly. For the ones that do not have canon sectors, apply them randomly between the two baseline sectors. Note: for properly-named sectors, the system or interstellar feature for which it is named leads the top of the respective list, while all others are listed alphabetically.
- Identify outer sector systems: All systems & features not located on the Modiphius 2371 (Star Chart) map are randomly applied to the other two sectors (i.e., the top & bottom ones), unless their original source (novels, shows, etc) indicate otherwise. Note: any such locations from the UFP Main Chart that are not mirrored on the Modiphius 2371 map are to be assigned to the outer sector systems (unless, again, a different source says otherwise). Note: for properly-named sectors, the system or interstellar feature for which it is named leads the top of the respective list, while all others are listed alphabetically.
- "Move" locations: Randomly assign relevant Z-coordinates for each location and feature, per their assigned sector within the sector column.
- Add locations to wiki-pages: At this point, use each newly-populated sector from the "2062" campaign as a guide, adding each displayed system or other location to the respective sector page within the sortable wiki table.
- Sector Map: Once again, return to each sector on SST sequentially, adding [year] to the sector's title and then screen-capturing the entire sector (at zoom 5.75). The names of some of the features may have to be re-located so that clear IDs can be made. Remember to remove "[year]" before leaving the sector and upload it to the sector page.
- Record 3D status: For each sector, record its present state of location population on both the sector page and the 3D Sector Project. With the eight core sectors complete and the campaign yet to begin, nearly all remaining sectors will fall into one of the two uncharted categories.
- Mark as complete: The final step is to mark the Main level sector (for the sector column) on the Master Sector Chart as completed, by filling in that cell with the green color that matches the other completed cells.
