Third Fleet is a standing fleet, one of the first four to be stood up under the Fleet Model, and is assigned to protect the Sol system, exclusively, as the capital of the United Federation of Planets. Elements of the fleet will patrol into the 8 sectors surrounding the system in order to interdict and identify any potential threats. They are considered to be Star Fleet's last line of defense.
It was formed in 2357.
