- January: The Defiant escort class is ordered to full-production.[3]
- The Romulan Neutral Zone will remain quiet for over 9 months.
- May: Star Fleet adopts a new uniform.[4]
- May: Bajor's petition to join the Federation is approved. Listening to their Emissary, the Bajoran council holds off on accepting the membership.[3]
- June: The Maquis attack Quatal Prime with biogenic weapons.[3]
- July: A full-scale Dominion invasion of the Alpha Quadrant (comprised of at least 50 ships) begins. An attempt to close the wormhole fails and Jem'Hadar vessels emerge into the quadrant, bypassing DS9 and heading for Cardassia.[3]
- July: The Cardassian Union joins the Dominion.[5]
- July: Chancellor Gowron demands Archanis IV be ceded to the Klingon Empire as a condition of the cessation of the war.[6]

- July: The Second Federation-Klingon War ends and the Khitomer Accords are reinstated.[7]
- November: A convoy of Dominion ships emerges from the Bajoran wormhole bound for Cardassia.[7]
- This will continue weekly for four more time.
- November: The Battle of Sector 001 takes place on approach to and within the Sol system, with a loss of over 20 Star Fleet vessels and the destruction of the Borg cube.[8]
- November: USS Bozeman (NCC-1841, Soyuz survey frigate) is lost in the second Borg offensive.[9]
- November: The first of three Star Fleet starships goes missing near the Cardassian border.[7]
- The other two will go missing within the next three weeks. USS Tian An Men (NCC-21382, Miranda class heavy frigate) is one of the three.
- December: The Romulan Star Empire signs a non-aggression treaty with the Dominion.[3]
- December: The Bajoran side of the wormhole is mined by Star Fleet with self-replicating mines programmed to swarm-detonate.[3]
- December: The Dominion War begins with the loss of the station in the Second Battle of Deep Space 9.[10][11][12]
