Casualties
When a vessel takes damage, the ship's personnel often receive a fair share of the pain. Most systems indicate the percentage of the crew that is injured when that system is damaged. These rules indicate how to designate who is injured, the extent of the injuries and the medical procedures that should respond.
When a system takes damage, the number of personnel injured in that specific act can be easily determined by multiplying the total crew number by the system's provided personnel percentage. So, for example, if a torpedo launcher onboard a Constitution class explorer takes damage, 2% of the ship's 430 crew (8.6, rounded to 9) are either injured or killed. To determine how many are killed outright (meaning, there is no chance to medically save), the type of estimated damage (per the Events Damage Table) must be considered. The established level of damage on the below table indicates what percentage of the casualties are minimally injured, critically injured and killed immediately.
| Damage Level | Minor | Critical | Killed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minimal | 80% | 20% | 0% |
| Marginal | 60% | 30% | 10% |
| Major | 40% | 40% | 20% |
| Massive | 20% | 40% | 40% |
| Disaster | 10% | 30% | 60% |
| Catastrophic | 0% | 25% | 75% |
Most personnel fall into one of the following departments: Command, Operations, Engineering, Security, Medical and Sciences.
