Location

The Sol system makes up the totality of Sector 001 and is also the most unique system (and sector) within the Federation's cartography system, as the star itself is considered to be in both the Alpha and Beta quadrants (with the demarcation line bisecting the stellar body) and in all eight of the neigboring sectors (002, 003, 004, 005, 006, 007, 008, 009). In fact, where other stars fall onto a demarcation line and are assigned as administratively within one or the other, Sol -as the cornerstone of the Federation- is provided coordinates within each of the above listed sectors. One factoid: as each of the system's nine planets transit in their orbits around the star, they enter and exit another proper sector (dependent upon their ecliptic angle).
