Syracuse (2223)

  • "The primary hull was of obvious Burke pedigree, with a flat, single-deck main disk topped by a terraced superstructure and an aft spine featuring a small shuttlebay above the centerline SAB impulse engine." (2)
  • "an angled ventral ‘neck’ now supported a single PB-29 nacelle" (3)
  • PB-29 nacelle (148 meters and 170,000 tons) (3)
  • "The nacelle also contained most of the warp machinery of the ship, and distributed power to various other systems, including a booster feed to the impulse system." (3)
  • "The dual two-tube, twin-loader launchers were fitted on the dorsal bulge of the saucer section, forward and aft of the bridge module, behind protective hatches." (4)
  • "The saucer was to be provided with four berths for phase cannon, two dorsally and two ventrally, as well as up to three plus three point defense laser emitters, even though filling of all the berths was never considered the preferred option." (4)
    • phase cannons use rectangular hatches
    • laser emitters, single units: 3 on dorsal, 3 on ventral
  • "The class thus was deemed fit for receiving the hypermodern PB-45 engine": (6)
    • the second batch was (apparently) the same original variant as the first (not the Saladins) and allowed for the PB-45 to be installed on future new-builds (Saladins?) and possibly on first batch too.
  • The first combat loss of a Saladin was in 2241 (7), so introduction of PB-45 must have been shortly before that.
